Saat itu, Darmawan merasa disepelekan karena Hilaludin menyandarkan kepalanya di kades yang hadir dalam forum tersebut ramai-ramai melayangkan protes atas insiden tersebut. Panglima Kodam IV/Diponegoro Mayjen TNI Tatang Sulaiman dalam keterangan tertulis membenarkan terjadi insiden penamparan tersebut. Namun, kasus ini kemudian diselesaikan secara kekeluargaan dengan mediasi bersama Bupati Rembang Abdul Hafidz. "Betul telah terjadi peristiwa itu. Kami menyesalkan atas apa yang telah terjadi dan sudah diselesaikan secara kekeluargaan serta disepakati tidak menuntut secara hukum disertai permohonan maaf Dandim Rembang kepada yang bersangkutan dengan dimediasi Bupati Rembang dan Forum Komunikasi Pimpinan Daerah Kabupaten Rembang," kata Tatang, seperti dikutip dari Penerangan Kodam IV Diponegoro, Minggu malam. Tatang mengatakan, instansinya sudah berkoordinasi dengan Markas Besar TNI Angkatan Darat. Darmawan akan tetap diproses secara internal. "Penggantinya sudah disiapkan," kata mengimbau kepada semua jajarannya agar kasus ini menjadi pembelajaran agar tidak terulang pada kemudian hari.
